On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation appeared before the County Assembly’s Health and Sanitation Committee to defend its proposed budget for the 2025/2026 financial year. This session forms part of the broader budget scrutiny process aimed at aligning departmental allocations with county priorities.
Leading the presentation was County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health and Sanitation, Ruth Koki, who was accompanied by Chief Officers Lynn Kitwan (Public Health and Sanitation), Dr. Benson Musyoka (Medical Services), and Aggrey Kamba (Drugs and Medical Supplies).
The team outlined key spending priorities for the coming fiscal year, including the procurement of essential medical supplies, enhancement of health infrastructure, and strengthening of community health services. They also provided updates on current and planned programs designed to expand access to quality healthcare across Kitui County.
During the session, Members of the County Assembly engaged the ministry with various inquiries. The ministry responded with data-backed explanations to ensure that the proposed budget reflects actual health needs at the grassroots level.
Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has consistently emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the management of public resources. This engagement between the ministry and the Assembly is in line with his administration’s commitment to using public funds effectively and delivering impactful services to residents.
The session was part of the County Assembly’s Sectoral Committees Program for the Consideration of the 2025/2026 Kitui County Budget Estimates, held under the Third Assembly, Fourth Session. Similar sessions are ongoing across other departments to ensure the county’s budget remains evidence-based and aligned with its overall development agenda.
