Kitui Women Representative Hon. Dr. Irene Kasalu launched a groundbreaking Women Empowerment Program aimed at improving the livelihoods of women across Kitui County.
Held at Kauwi Grounds in Kabati, on November 18, 2024 this initiative saw numerous community groups and CBOs benefit from an array of resources, including plastic chairs, tents, water tanks, cooking equipment, and motorbikes for boda boda Saccos. The program underscores Dr. Kasalu’s commitment to uplifting communities and empowering women through practical, transformative support.
The event was attended by prominent leaders, including Hon. Kamene Kasimbi and Hon. Rose Museo, who lauded Dr. Kasalu’s efforts to advance community development. A highlight of the event was the distribution of over 500 water tanks, 1,000 plastic chairs, 50 tents, catering equipment, and motorcycles. These resources were directed to women’s groups, boda boda Saccos, and other community organizations, signaling a comprehensive approach to community empowerment.
In her address, Dr. Kasalu emphasized the importance of empowering communities by providing access to clean water and essential tools. She noted that the provision of clean drinking water is a fundamental necessity and that the water tanks would significantly enhance access to safe water for families in Kitui County. She reiterated her mission to ensure that every home in Kitui has access to water, aligning her initiatives with broader development goals.
The distribution of resources went beyond water tanks, as the program also issued cheques, tents, motorcycles, sufurias, catering equipment, and car wash machines to various groups. These resources are expected to boost income-generating activities and enhance self-reliance among beneficiaries. Hon. Kasimbi and Hon. Museo called for the sustainable use of the distributed items to ensure long-term benefits for the community.
