Japheth Kavinga Kaluyu, the leader of the Unified Change Party (UCP), has officially declared his candidacy for the 2027 Kenyan presidential election. As the only Kamba leader to have vied for the presidency twice, Kaluyu asserts that his extensive experience makes him the senior-most politician in the Kamba community.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, he expressed confidence in his ability to unseat President William Ruto, emphasizing that his leadership would address Kenya’s pressing challenges and deliver transformative governance. Kaluyu also pledged to eradicate cartels and corruption while committing to a campaign free of insults and divisive rhetoric.

Kaluyu unveiled a detailed seven-point plan as the foundation of his campaign and future administration. His priorities include reducing the cost of living, creating job opportunities, and driving economic growth. He promised to lower taxes, arguing that empowering citizens financially is key to economic revitalization. Additionally, he vowed to fight corruption relentlessly, involve the diaspora in national development, and establish universal healthcare as part of a broader strategy to recover from the economic and social impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reflecting on his political journey, Kaluyu recalled his 2017 presidential bid as an independent candidate, where he gained valuable lessons about the Kenyan political landscape. He expressed optimism about the growth of UCP, predicting it will become a dominant force in 2027 with a strong presence in Parliament, gubernatorial offices, Senate, and other leadership positions. Kaluyu believes this broad support base will enable him to implement his ambitious plans and bring about the change Kenyans desperately need.

In addition to outlining his vision for the country, Kaluyu strongly condemned the ongoing mysterious disappearances and abductions that have sparked fear across the nation. He called for urgent action to address these human rights violations, assuring Kenyans that his administration would prioritize justice and security. With his bold agenda and commitment to ethical leadership, Kaluyu positions himself as a formidable contender in the 2027 presidential race.
