In a fiery press conference, Augustus Kyalo Muli announced his intention to pursue legal action against the Azimio coalition if the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) proceeds with replacing him with Wiper party’s Ambassador Dr. Koki Muli on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel.

Kyalo, the National Liberal Party leader, accused Azimio Secretary General Junet Mohammed and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka of undermining the Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC) by overriding the decision of duly elected nominees.

Kyalo emphasized that the PPLC’s decision to nominate him was independent of political affiliations, aiming to select individuals of integrity for the panel.

This election was not about Azimio or Kenya Kwanza, it was about PPLC. And PPLC decided they are going to choose me.I might be from a poor background. I may be new in politics. But they chose me,” he asserted.

He expressed his dismay at the alleged manipulation of the selection process, which he believes undermines the principles of fairness and justice.

The National Liberal Party leader highlighted the importance of upholding the integrity of the selection process, arguing that any disputes should be resolved through established legal mechanisms. He pointed out that no one had contested the election’s fairness in court, questioning the legitimacy of replacing a duly elected nominee.

“Who has ever heard of that when elections have been done? If there are disputes, there are mechanisms to resolve that. Nobody has gone to court to say the election was not free and fair,” Kyalo stated passionately.

Kyalo’s allegations suggest a significant rift within the political landscape, with accusations of favoritism and backroom deals overshadowing the selection process. His remarks underline a broader concern about the transparency and accountability of political processes in Kenya.

By taking a stand, Muli aims to bring attention to what he perceives as an injustice, emphasizing that the selection panel should reflect the will of the PPLC rather than political machinations.

The unfolding situation places additional pressure on the Azimio coalition and the PSC to address these concerns transparently. Muli’s threat of legal action underscores the potential for prolonged disputes, highlighting the need for a resolution that upholds democratic principles and maintains public trust in the electoral process.
