Kitui county will play host to the 2024 world radio day event that will be commemorated on February 13, 2023 bringing different stakeholders.
According to Media council of Kenya (MCK) Manager, Research Planning and Strategy, Mr Leo Mutisya the event will be held for the first time in Kitui County owing to the immense growth of the radio sector.
“It’s important because it recognizes the role Radio has in the country, considering Kitui has witnessed immense radio growth, they will be looking at different areas to improve on service delivery,” Hopkin Digital reports.
The event will be preceded by a training for media practitioners including station managers to cement relations and also on matters related to safety and protection of journalists.
The meeting will also check on some of the needs that the sector requires including safety of journalists and protection in line of their work. Radio is crucial in providing information, entertainment, and a voice for local communities in lower Eastern Kenya.
Kitui has about four radio stations currently broadcasting from the region.
1. County FM:
Frequency : 90.3
2. Syokimau FM:
Frequency: 88.7
3. Radio Thome:
Frequency: 88.1
4. Wikwatyo FM:
Frequency: 105.3
