The Kitui Youth Movement (KYM) has strongly criticized President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of sidelining the Kamba community in government appointments. According to KYM, despite their significant contributions to the country, the Kenya Kwanza (KK) government has failed to allocate key leadership positions to Kamba leaders, leaving the community feeling marginalized. The youth-led movement insists that the government must acknowledge and include them in decision-making roles to ensure fair representation.
Speaking during a press briefing, KYM President Silvester Lawrence expressed deep frustration over the matter, emphasizing that the Kamba people deserve national recognition. He stated that their exclusion is unacceptable and called for immediate action to correct the imbalance. KYM Director Ali Mutua echoed his sentiments, urging President Ruto to reconsider his political appointments and involve more leaders from Ukambani, particularly the youth. Youth representative Timothy Mutunga also asserted that the Kamba community will no longer tolerate being undermined and demanded their rightful place in governance.
In response to their dissatisfaction, KYM has pledged support for Dr. August Kyalo Muli, the leader of the National Liberal Party (NLP), as their preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election. The movement believes that Dr. Muli represents the political and economic aspirations of the Kamba people and is best suited to champion their interests at the national level. KYM leaders vowed to mobilize the youth and the entire community to back Dr. Muli’s presidential bid, signaling a potential shift in regional politics. As the 2027 elections draw closer, the group’s declaration adds a new dynamic to the political landscape in Ukambani, leaving the question of whether President Ruto will address their concerns unanswered.
