Migwani Sub-County Hospital has etched its name into the annals of Kitui’s healthcare history by successfully conducting its first-ever Emergency Caesarean Section (EMCS) on Thursday, May 22nd, 2025. This groundbreaking achievement marks a significant leap forward in the county’s quest to decentralize and enhance emergency and surgical services, bringing quality care closer to the people.

This remarkable milestone is a resounding endorsement of the visionary leadership of the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health and Sanitation, Madam Ruth Koki. Under her stewardship, the ministry has prioritized infrastructural development, capacity building, and equitable access to critical medical interventions, hallmarks of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s transformative agenda encapsulated in The Kitui Promise.

“This is a proud moment for Migwani and a big win for Kitui County,” remarked Dr. Benson Musyoka, Chief Officer for Medical Services. “It’s a direct result of our deliberate investment in decentralizing surgical services and building capacity at sub-county hospitals.”

The newly equipped general theatre at Migwani will now serve as a vital hub for not only emergency obstetric care but also a broad spectrum of life-saving surgeries. This milestone represents more than just a medical procedure it symbolizes the fruits of strategic planning and committed leadership.

Dr. Musyoka also revealed that the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, under Madam Ruth Koki, is currently operationalizing another general theatre at Kanyangi Sub-County Hospital, with similar upgrades being implemented across all Level IV hospitals in the county.

“This is more than just a surgery—it’s evidence that The Kitui Promise is being delivered,” he emphasized, applauding the Migwani medical team for their professionalism and readiness.

The EMCS at Migwani is not an isolated success but a testament to a broader transformation spearheaded by Ruth Koki’s ministry. Her leadership has redefined what is possible in grassroots healthcare, bridging the gap between urban and rural access to essential services.

“This is just the beginning,” Dr. Musyoka affirmed. “We are committed to delivering better, faster, and more reliable healthcare services to every corner of Kitui County. The best is yet to come.”

Indeed, with leaders like waziri Ruth Koki at the helm, Kitui’s health sector is not just growing, it is thriving.
