On June 17, 2025, Kitui Water and Sanitation Company (KITWASCO) unveiled its 5-year Strategic Plan (2024–2029) at a hotel in Kitui. The ceremony was graced by Kitui County Deputy Governor H.E. Wambua Kanani, who was accompanied by Water and Irrigation CECM Kitonga Nkunda, former Kanziku Ward MCA and KITWASCO board member James Munuve, Nzambani Ward MCA Hon. Musyoka Mbite, and KITWASCO Managing Director June Munyao. The strategic plan outlines the company’s vision for sustainable water and sanitation service delivery across Kitui County.

In his remarks, Deputy Governor Kanani rallied all KITWASCO stakeholders—staff, board members, and partners—to take full ownership of the plan and commit to its implementation. He emphasized the importance of aligning daily operations with the broader goals of the strategic blueprint. “To the Board of Directors and the management, you have Governor Malombe’s full support and confidence. Let this plan be a living document that adapts, inspires, and delivers,” Kanani stated, reinforcing the county government’s support in ensuring the plan’s success.

The 5-year plan reflects KITWASCO’s renewed commitment to professionalism, integrity, innovation, and customer satisfaction. It aligns closely with The Kitui Promise, the Kitui County Integrated Development Plan, Kenya’s Vision 2030, and the Sustainable Development Goals—particularly SDG 6, which advocates for universal access to clean water and sanitation. The strategy aims to bridge existing service gaps while supporting Governor Malombe’s vision for improved water infrastructure and equitable distribution across the county.

While launching the plan, H.E. Kanani acknowledged the key challenges facing KITWASCO, including non-revenue water, infrastructure gaps, financial constraints, and climate change. He encouraged the adoption of sustainable, nature-based solutions like solar-powered pumping systems and proactive measures to curb water loss and manage wastewater. As the global water crisis intensifies, KITWASCO’s plan serves as a timely and structured intervention to protect, conserve, and sustainably utilize this critical natural resource for the benefit of all Kitui residents.
