Kyoome/Thaana election loser files petition challenging Alphonse Mukwaiyu’s win to pave way for a fresh election in the Ward.

Paul Ngei Kyala, who contested for the Kyoome Thaana seat in the just concluded By Election, has moved to court challenging Alphonse Mukwaiyu’s win.

Kyala, who vied as Party of Democratic Unity candidate, through his lawyer wants the election of Hon. Mukwaiyu nullified citing unfairness in the By election process. Mukwaiyu was declared the winner in the Kyoome/Thaana race after garnering 2365 votes against Joyce Mwende David who managed 1495 votes.

Speaking exclusively with Hopkin Reporter Hon Mukwaiyu revealed that Paul Kyala garnered 111 votes and managed to be number eight.

He also petitioned IEBC and Mwingi West returning officer John K. Mwawasi accusing them of aiding in rigging in Mukwaiyu.

“His reasons to file petition I don’t know, he secured 111 votes and he was number eight, there must someone behind him we call them proxy but I assure my people that I will work with Governor Julius Malombe’s administration to ensure my residents get development,” Mukwaiyu said.

Mukwaiyu further said he will always indulge residents in public participation forums for them to table developmental plans for the ward.

Alphonse Musyimi Mukwaiyu, who retired from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and former military pilot who worked in peacekeeping missions in Sierra Leone and Sudan.

“Since my retirement from the military in 2008, I chose to stay in the village where I’ve been running a small business. This is why the community settled on me as their representative,” he added.
