The National Anzauni Patron and founder of Kyalo Kya Maendeo CBO Dr Augustus Kyalo Muli On Saturday 24th February 2024, joined thousands of mourners at the laying to rest fete of the late Maiyu Wanzili, mother to the former Mwingi County Council chairman and Kamba political songs legend Hon. Morris Musyoka Wanzili (Wamaiyu) at Maai, Nguni ward of Mwingi Central sub county.
Maiyu was celebrated as the custodian of songs and stories, passing down her wisdom to her son Musyoka Wamaiyu, whose voice resonated like honey and eyes shimmered with insight, earning her the esteemed title of the village’s traditional singer.
The late Maiyu was born in 1936 in mwasuma village kyavyuka sub location kyambisu location. She enjoyed good health until 6th February 2024, when she fell I’ll and complained of body and stomach pain.
She objected going to hospital and insisted that all she needed was prayers and called one of his grandchildren to pray with her before she slept, on 9th February her health deteriorated and was rush to Mwingi level IV hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
In attendance was former Vice president His excellency Kalonzo Musyoka, Kitui Governor dr Julius Malombe, his deputy Augustine Kanani, Hon. Kelvin Kinengo (Kitui Assembly Speaker), Hon Kitui Central Mp Dr Makali Mulu, Kitui West Mp Charles Nguna, nominated senator Beth syengo, MCAs led by area MCA Hon Jeremiah Mutua Musee, Senatorial Aspirant Hon Peter Kithusya amongst other leader.
