Detectives on Saturday 28th October 2023, arrested the prime suspect in the monstrous murder of hair stylist Jeniffer Mwende (aka Jane) whose body was discovered dumped at a pit latrine in Mlolongo, as she attempted to escape to Tanzania.
Phyllis Nzula Mbithi , a middle aged lady was arrested in a Namanga-bound matatu minutes past 9pm after weeks of relentless manhunt by crime research detectives who were actioning forensic-led intelligence.
According to the information in our possession, Phyllis Nzula, a widower and mother of two comes from Makele, Ikanga Kyatune Ward in Kitui County and Ever since, Phyllis remained on police radar holed up by escaping to Makele, Mombasa and Kibwezi, before her interception and arrest.
In the dreadful case of a fatal love triangle, meticulous probe into the disappearance and subsequent murder of miss Mwende brought Phyllis name to the limelight after it emerged that she (Phyllis) had on various occasions threatened Mwende regarding a married man by the name Januaris Musau Mulwa, they were both seeing.
On Monday 31st October 2023, Phyllis who appeared before Judge Victoria Achieng Ochanda but did not take plea.
The court, however, directed a mental checkup for the suspect to determine if she was fit to stand trial. The case will be mentioned on November 11.
The suspect is being detained at the Machakos GK Prisons.
