Locals Urge Governor Malombe to Include JSS Students in Pro-Poor Bursary Program

Locals in Kitui County are appealing to Governor Julius Malombe to include Junior Secondary School (JSS) students in the county’s pro-poor bursary program. They argue that many JSS students face significant financial challenges, and extending the bursary program to cover them would ease the burden on families while promoting equal access to education. This call emphasizes the importance of ensuring all students, regardless of their grade level, have the support needed to stay in school.

On Tuesday, 29th October 2024, a countywide validation exercise was held at each Ward Administrator’s office to advance the Community Level Infrastructure Development Programme (CLIDP). This forum, led by Governor Malombe’s administration, aimed to confirm pro-poor fee support recipients and determine optimal locations for sand dam projects in the 2024/2025 fiscal year.

Such forums are part of the county’s proactive approach to ensure that resources are directed toward projects that most benefit the communities in need, demonstrating a commitment to participatory decision-making.

In Kitui Township MCA Hon. Ngoima Kimanzi expressed gratitude to village administrators and Ward Development Committee members for their dedication during the recent public participation forums. He commended their efforts in the selection process for CLIDP projects, pro-poor bursaries, and identifying locations for sand dams, highlighting that their commitment to fairness and community interests exemplifies their dedication to serving “one people.” This acknowledgment of their work underscores the value of community-centered governance and grassroots involvement.

Hon. Ngoima emphasized the need for fair distribution of financial resources, specifically advocating for increased allocation to Township Ward. He argued that urban wards face unique challenges that require additional funding to address effectively. By calling for adjusted financial allocations, Hon. Ngoima is championing equity in development, ensuring that Township Ward has the necessary resources to address its specific needs and support its residents adequately.

He also took a firm stand on the quality of infrastructure projects in Township Ward, warning that he would not tolerate substandard work from contractors. Hon. Ngoima vowed that contractors delivering poor-quality results would face legal consequences and promised that engineers overseeing these projects would be held accountable, facing potential termination rather than simple transfers.

He urged village administrators and Ward Development Committee members to refuse to sign off on any unsatisfactory work, calling on them to lead by example. This commitment to accountability reflects his determination to ensure that public funds are used effectively to create lasting, high-quality infrastructure.
