Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, the current County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture and Livestock in Kitui County, is emerging as a popular candidate for the Mwingi Central parliamentary seat in 2027. Under the leadership of Governor H.E. Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, Dr. Mbaya has steered transformative and impactful projects in the agriculture sector.
These include organizing two highly successful agricultural shows, forming farmer cooperatives in all wards, distributing seeds, supporting micro-irrigation schemes for enhanced agriculture, reviving farming tractors and agricultural machinery for water pans, promoting farmer training and capacity building through extension services, and issuing cheques to empower farmers. His accomplishments have endeared him to the people of Mwingi Central, with many now viewing him as the ideal replacement for the incumbent MP, Dr. Gideon Mulyungi.
Dr. Mbaya is widely seen as a peaceful, down-to-earth, jovial, social, and strategic leader who can diligently transform Mwingi Central into a viable and vibrant constituency. His ability to inspire the youth and other residents has further bolstered his popularity. Leaders from Mwingi Central increasingly perceive him as a worthy alternative for the constituency’s leadership.
Under Dr. Mbaya’s leadership, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock was recognized as one of the best-performing ministries in Kitui County in 2023. His innovative and results-oriented approach to governance has made him a transformative figure. Although he has yet to officially declare his intention to vie for the parliamentary seat, grassroots support for his candidacy is growing louder. Mwingi Central Constituency, comprising six wards—Mwingi Central, Kivou, Waita, Nguni, Mui, and Nuu—appears united in backing Dr. Mbaya, signaling a strong demand for fresh and dynamic leadership.
