Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in Nyamira County have threatened to begin an impeachment motion against Governor Amos Nyaribo. 28 out of 34 MCAs have approved an impeachment.

According to Township ward MCA Duke Masira, who is the deputy leader of the majority in the Assembly, they want Nyaribo to resign or face impeachment over a Ksh. 22 million drugs scandal. In addition, Masira said that MCAs have lost faith in Nyaribo because he has been abusing his authority.

“We want the Senate to establish whether Nyaribo will continue being governor. He claimed that only boxes were delivered instead of drugs, we want him to be investigated,” said the deputy majority leader.

The drugs purchase scandal led to the governor sacking Timothy Ombati, who was the county’s health minister. Ombati has since moved to court on grounds that he was unlawfully sacked. He wants the governor to reinstate him.
