The institution, Meru University has been closed indefinitely following students unrest; Saturday’s graduation ceremony suspended until further notice. All students residing within the school premises are expected to vacate the hostels latest 1700hours.
Meru University comrades go on a rampage to protest the removal of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Romanus Odhiambo.
On Monday, March 6, the University Senate convened to discuss what they should do next after students took to the streets.
The Senate closed University indefinitely in response to the turmoil, and all students were ordered to leave all university campuses immediately, according to a memo from the Senate.
The Senate also cancelled the university’s tenth graduation which was scheduled for March 11.
The demonstrations paralysed transport paralysed around Nchiru market and on the Meru-Maua.
According to reports, students protested in the streets to call for Prof. Romanus Odhiambo, the vice chancellor who had been placed on leave due to “poor performance,” to be reinstated.
According to reports, the protests started on Sunday night and continued until Monday morning.
