Dr. Irene Kasalu, Kitui County Women Representative, has firmly stated her opposition to the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, emphasizing her loyalty to the GEMA community.
Speaking during the burial of the late Elizabeth Wayua Kituku in Ikutha, Kasalu underscored that the GEMA community would not support the removal of one of their own. The late Elizabeth Wayua was the wife of Paul Kituku Munyalo, a former councilor in Ikutha, adding a significant layer to the day’s reflections on leadership and legacy.

Kasalu joined thousands of mourners to honor the life of Wayua, who passed away at the age of 99. Born in 1925, Wayua lived a long and fulfilling life, during which she became a matriarch to her large family, including 37 great-grandchildren. Despite good health for most of her life, Wayua developed health complications in 2020 related to fluctuating blood pressure, which ultimately led to her passing in September 2024. Her life was a testament to resilience and strength, leaving a lasting legacy in the community.

During her address, Kasalu praised Wayua’s remarkable life, emphasizing her role as a pillar in both her family and the wider community. Her son spoke of celebrating a life well-lived, reflecting on the achievements of his mother, who had faced life’s challenges with grace and dignity. The event was a balance of grief and celebration as mourners paid their respects to the wife of the former councilor, a figure respected in Ikutha for his contributions to local governance.

In addition to her tribute, Dr. Kasalu addressed local road safety concerns following the tragic accident on the Kitui-Kibwezi Road that claimed six schoolchildren’s lives. She reassured mourners that KENHA officials had begun work on road safety measures, including marking the road and constructing speed bumps, aimed at preventing future tragedies.
