Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu joined forces with Kitui County Governor Dr. Julius Malombe EGH to inaugurate the Kitui County Agricultural Show and Trade Fair 2024. The event, held at the Ithookwe Showgrounds, aimed to showcase the latest in agricultural technologies and innovations.
In his address, MP Mulu emphasized the importance of adopting these technologies to improve productivity and sustainability in Kitui’s farming sector. He urged local farmers to take advantage of the advancements on display to enhance their agricultural practices.
MP Mulu also highlighted the potential benefits of gaining national recognition for the Kitui Agricultural Show. He advised Governor Malombe and Kitui County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto to formally request the Agricultural Society of Kenya (A.S.K) to include the Kitui show in their national schedule. Such inclusion would attract more funding and national exhibitors, further elevating the status of the event and providing greater exposure for local farmers and businesses.
Governor Malombe, in his speech, underscored the role of Agricultural Shows and Trade Fairs as crucial platforms for networking and business development. He noted that these events bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including farmers, entrepreneurs, investors, consumers, and students.
By fostering such connections, the shows contribute to the formation of strategic partnerships that can drive the agricultural sector forward. Malombe reiterated the commitment of his administration to support initiatives that promote technological adoption and sustainable agricultural practices.
This year’s show, themed “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture for Food and Nutrition Security and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,” focused on addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
The theme highlighted the need for innovative solutions to ensure food security and economic stability. The show provided a platform for discussing and demonstrating climate-smart agricultural practices, aiming to equip farmers with the knowledge and tools necessary to adapt to changing environmental conditions and improve their livelihoods.
