Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has called on Kenyans to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to enable them to access healthcare services without financial strain.
Speaking during the burial of the late Benjamin Mutinda Kimithi in Kauwi Ward, Kitui West Constituency, Kitui County, Mutuse emphasized the importance of universal health coverage through SHA. He urged residents of Ukambani and other regions to register in large numbers, noting that this would guarantee free treatment at Level 2 and Level 3 hospitals.
Mutuse highlighted the transformative impact of SHA in reducing the financial burden associated with healthcare. He pointed out that families would no longer need to resort to fundraising or borrowing from friends and relatives to cover medical expenses. Instead, the insurance scheme would cater to all healthcare costs, ensuring that everyone can access quality medical services regardless of their financial situation.
In a bid to support vulnerable families, the MP announced an initiative to pay for SHA registration for 10,000 households within his constituency. He noted that this intervention would help the less fortunate access healthcare without worrying about premiums. “This will ensure that even the most disadvantaged in our community can walk into a hospital and receive the care they need without hesitation,” Mutuse stated.
Mutuse’s commitment to promoting SHA aligns with the government’s broader agenda of achieving universal health coverage. He appealed to leaders from all regions to educate their constituents about the benefits of the scheme and encourage them to register. He concluded by affirming that healthcare is a basic right, and every Kenyan deserves to access it without financial hurdles.
