Mwingi primary school KCPE candidate is sitting for the examination in maternity ward in Mwingi level IV after giving birth on Sunday, hours before the exam kicked off.
School Deputy Headteacher Madam Jane Mwangi confirms, saying so far everything is in place.
Also In Makueni County , a 17 Year Old KCPE candidate from ung’atani primary school welcomes a baby at Makueni County Referral Hospital. Makueni county director of education Charles Nyakundi confirmed earlier today.
At least 1,415,315 candidates have sat for their final national examinations for primary school level countrywide.
Security officers were deployed to different exam collection and distribution points to ensure the security of the learners during the whole process.
This year’s exam marks the last group of Standard 8 students under the 8-4-4 system of education since it was introduced in 1985, by president Daniel Arap Moi.
Grade Six learners under the Competency-Based Curriculum are also sitting for their KPSEA exams.
In the new curriculum, students are expected to study for 2-years in pre-primary, 6-years primary, 6-years high school which will be 3-years in the junior secondary and 3-years in the senior secondary and 3 years in the higher education.
The proposed education system was developed after the Needs Assessment Study for Curriculum Reforms study conducted by the Kenya Institution Curriculum Development (KICD).
