The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) in Kitui County has been honored with a certificate recognizing its exceptional contributions to disability inclusion. The certificate was presented by Hon. Phoebe Mutemi, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Sports, Youth, and Social Services, who represented Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH.

The presentation took place during the celebration of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, themed “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.” The event, held in Mwingi Town, brought together persons with disabilities (PWDs), stakeholders, and leaders to advocate for inclusivity and support for PWDs.

Waziri Phoebe highlighted the county government’s ongoing initiatives to address the challenges faced by PWDs. She noted that resources have been allocated for PWD grants and assistive devices as part of the government’s commitment to promoting equity and empowerment.

NCCK was specifically commended for its role in empowering PWDs and fostering inclusion through its Kenya Disability Inclusive Program (KDIP), funded by Help a Child Africa. The recognition reflects the council’s dedication to ensuring that PWDs are valued contributors to the community and society.
