Nicholas Mulila, the Chief Corporate Risk and Security Officer of Safaricom, spearheaded a remarkable fundraising effort that saw Ksh 61.4 million raised during Family Day, as the Catholic Diocese of Kitui celebrated 60 years of evangelization. The event, held at St. John Paul II Institute in Kitui town, was a special occasion to commemorate the Diocese’s evangelization journey and mobilize support for its pastoral projects. Mulila’s leadership in driving this contribution underscored his commitment to supporting community causes and the Church’s mission.

The celebration, themed “Walking Together as a Eucharistic Community,” brought together thousands of faithful, clergy, and other religious leaders. The Mass was presided over by Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela, Bishop of Kitui, who led the congregation in thanksgiving for the many blessings the Diocese had received over the years. In his homily, Bishop Mwongela emphasized the pillars of self-reliance, vocation, and evangelization, which are key to the Diocese’s mission. He called on the faithful to use their talents to uplift one another and build stronger community bonds.

Nicholas Mulila, in his remarks, stressed the importance of giving back to God and supporting the Church’s efforts to spread the Gospel. He highlighted that the success of the fundraising efforts was a testament to the faithful’s commitment to their Church. “Giving is an act of faith,” Mulila noted, “and it is our responsibility to contribute to the work of God as a sign of gratitude for the blessings we have received.” His words resonated with many attendees, further encouraging generosity and community spirit.

The day was not only a celebration of faith but also a time to recognize the efforts of various parishes that exceeded their fundraising targets. Several parishes were awarded desktop computers for their achievements, while Kabati Parish, noted as the most improved, received a filing cabinet. The successful event underscored the sense of ownership the faithful have for their Church and their willingness to support its ongoing mission of evangelization.
