Kitui politician Patrick Kitonga has echoed the remarks made by Commissioner Muthama Nduya at a recent burial in Makueni County, calling for unity within the Kamba community. Kitonga, speaking today, emphasized that Muthama’s speech aimed to foster solidarity among the Kamba people and garner support for the Kenya Kwanza government to ensure greater developmental benefits for the region.

Commissioner Muthama, who spoke yesterday, reflected on the historical journey of the Kamba community since the time of the first Chief Defence Forces, Maj-Gen Joseph Ndolo. He highlighted that the Kamba people have long supported various governments and should have reaped significant benefits from their loyalty. Muthama urged the community to continue this tradition of support to secure more substantial development projects.

Kitonga reinforced Muthama’s message, pointing out that unity is crucial for the Kamba people to effectively advocate for their needs. He drew comparisons to Central Kenya and the Rift Valley, where communities have successfully united to achieve their goals. Kitonga stated that Commissioner Muthama’s call for unity was a strategic move to ensure the Kamba community’s voice is heard and their interests are addressed by the government.

In response to the controversy surrounding his remarks, Commissioner Muthama clarified his stance on social media, stating, “As the founding chairman of United Democratic Alliance (UDA), I campaigned vigorously for the party for us to form government and I still hold allegiance to the ruling party. Despite being a loyal supporter of this administration, it doesn’t mean that anyone can deter me from championing the unity of my community and as I do that, it shouldn’t be misconstrued that I am leaving UDA or ceasing to support the President.” Kitonga reiterated this clarification, emphasizing that Muthama remains committed to the UDA government while advocating for the unity and progress of the Kamba community.
