The County Government of Kitui, under Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, has unveiled plans to enhance healthcare services in Kyuso level IV, Mwing North through the construction of a state-of-the-art Outpatient Department (OPD), a modern theatre, and new pediatric and female wards, following a support supervision visit by Dr. Benson Musyoka, the Chief Officer for Medical Services, on Thursday, December 5, 2024. These upgrades aim to bridge critical gaps in service delivery and provide accessible, quality healthcare for residents.
However, these ambitious plans face uncertainty due to delays in approving the supplementary budget by Members of the County Assembly (MCAs). The budget, which allocates funding for essential health projects, has been rejected, raising concerns over the MCAs’ commitment to prioritizing public welfare.
Despite the setbacks, progress has been made in some areas, notably the drilling of a borehole at Kyuso Level IV Hospital to mitigate water shortages. The borehole is expected to be fully equipped by the end of the year, ensuring a steady water supply for the hospital.
If approved, the proposed health facilities will significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity, reduce patient referrals, and offer much-needed relief to the overburdened health system. “The new OPD will decongest the hospital and provide a conducive environment for patients and staff,” said Dr Musyoka Benson.
Local residents have expressed frustration, accusing the MCAs of prioritizing political interests over community development. “We elected them to serve us, not to obstruct progress. Their actions are hurting the very people they represent,” lamented a resident.
The County Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving healthcare services and has urged the MCAs to set aside political differences and approve the budget to ensure timely implementation of the planned projects.
