Safaricom’s Chief Consumer Business Officer, Fawzia Ali, launched the “Shine Kenya Shinda Mamilii Kama Bingwa Promotion” on Thursday, June 20, 2024, in Kabati, Kitui County.
This new initiative aims to celebrate and reward customers with significant daily and weekly cash prizes. The launch event, held in the Eastern Region, marks the latest effort by Safaricom to engage with its customer base and show appreciation for their continued support.
The promotion is set to run for eight weeks, during which over 2.5 million Safaricom customers across the country will have the chance to win a variety of prizes. Each week, thirty customers will win KES 1 million each, while the grand prize winner will receive a substantial KES 5 million.
This broad participation ensures that customers from different regions benefit from the promotion, highlighting Safaricom’s commitment to inclusivity and community engagement.
A unique aspect of the “Shine Kenya Shinda Mamilii Kama Bingwa” promotion is its emphasis on community support. Beyond the individual cash prizes, each weekly millionaire will receive an additional KES 250,000 to fund a community project of their choice, courtesy of the Safaricom Foundation.
Similarly, the grand prize winner will receive an additional KES 1 million for community initiatives. This strategy ensures that the promotion’s benefits extend beyond individual winners, fostering community development and social responsibility.
The promotion has seen regional launches in Nairobi, Rift, Mountain, and Western regions, with plans to extend to the Coast region. This regional approach ensures widespread participation and excitement, creating one millionaire from each region weekly for five weeks.
Additional prizes include instant M-PESA cash rewards, GSM bundles, and content offerings like Baze Radio and E-Newspapers, enhancing the overall customer experience.
To participate in the promotion, customers need to transact on M-PESA or purchase the Shine Kenya Bundles. Every KES 200 transacted on M-PESA and any Shine Kenya bundle purchase of KES 20 and above qualifies customers for the weekly draw.
Eligible transactions include sending money, Lipa na M-PESA, and other transactions through the M-PESA App, My Safaricom App, or specific USSD codes. This straightforward participation mechanism ensures that all customers have a fair chance to win and contribute to community projects.
