Kitui County Senator Enoch Kiio Wambua officially opened the Eastern Region Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) Term Two Games on Thursday, July 11, 2024. The event, hosted at Kitui High School, will run until Saturday, July 14, 2024.
This three-day championship will feature a variety of sports, including soccer, volleyball, netball, rugby 7’s, basketball 3Ă—3, and racquet games, bringing together young players from across the region in a spirited competition.
The Eastern region comprises Embu County, Kitui County, Makueni, Isiolo, Tharaka Nithi, Machakos County, Marsabit County, and Meru County. In his opening remarks, Senator Kiio emphasized the importance of sports in the holistic development of students.
He encouraged all participants to view themselves as winners, highlighting that the true essence of sports lies in the spirit of competition and the pursuit of excellence. The senator urged the students to play clean and fair games to avoid injuries and to foster a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect among competitors.
Senator Kiio also stressed the significance of forming friendships through sports. He noted that beyond the pursuit of victory, sports provide an invaluable opportunity for students to build lasting relationships and networks. By interacting with peers from different schools, students can broaden their social horizons and develop interpersonal skills that will benefit them in their future endeavors.
As the games progress, the stakes will be high for the participating teams. The winners of this regional championship will earn coveted spots in the 2024 KSSSA National Term Two Games, set to be held in Kisii from July 28 to August 7.
The regional competition at Kitui High School promises to be an exciting showcase of talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship, as young students strive to achieve their dreams on a larger stage.
