Kitui County Assembly descended into violent chaos yet again after Speaker Kinengo Katisya ordered sergeants to remove Matinyani MCA Sylvester Munyalo from the chamber.
According to our ever-watchful, hawk-eyed sources, the Member for Matinyani, popularly known as Yaamu, had raised a point of order to inform the Speaker that there was no quorum to proceed with the business in the order paper.
It is said that the Speaker ignored the MCA, who was already on his feet reading from the standing orders, and ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to remove him from the chamber.
The Sergeant-at-Arms advanced on the Matinyani legislator, who is also the Minority Whip, as he was seated between Kauwi MCA Gabriel Munyao on his right and Mutomo MCA Masaku Munyau on the other side. Other members rushed to surround him.
It is alleged that the Member for Nuu Ward, Judith Wanza, sparked a fistfight when she rose from her seat and hit Mutomo MCA Masaku Munyau. Hon. Masaku was restrained from retaliating by, among others, Nzambani MCA Joseph Musyoka, as Assembly orderlies tussled with the MCAs and rushed to protect the Speaker and the mace.
In the chaos, a senior Sergeant-at-Arms lost several teeth after being caught in the middle of the brawl, suffering heavy blows during the melee.
Later, a heavy contingent of police officers arrived at the Assembly, ostensibly to inspect the damage caused in the chamber during the morning tussle.
This comes as the Wiper Democratic Movement executed a dramatic shake-up in the Kitui County Assembly, replacing key figures in the Majority Leadership.
In a letter seen by Hopkin Digital Media, Wiper formally communicated the new leadership lineup following a high-stakes meeting held on Monday, March 3, 2025. The changes are seen as a strategic realignment ahead of the 2025 House calendar.
Kyuso MCA Hon. Munyoki Mwinzi, the new Majority Leader, takes charge as the Wiper Party strengthens its grip on Assembly operations this year. In the new lineup, Hon. Munyoki Mwinzi assumes the role of Majority Leader, while Hon. Dr. Erastus Musyoka Mbuno takes over as Deputy Majority Leader. Hon. Daniel Nggima Kimanzi has been named Majority Whip, with Hon. Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka as the Deputy Majority Whip.
