The decorated dubai based businessman Mr Augustus kyalo Muli has been a critic of Governor Malombe’s style of leadership.In a press statement seen by Hopkin Reporter, Augustus Kyalo Muli Wrote that;
“Recently I gave a press conference where I urged the Governor and Speaker of Kitui to resign if they were not able to work quickly and effectively for the benefit of Kitui people.
My call was based on the fact that whereas most Counties had already set up their governments and were already working for their people, Kitui County had nothing to show, six months after last year’s General elections.
What followed was a huge outburst by Governor Malombe and Speaker Kinengo’s loyalists who criticised me for attacking the Governor too quickly, while others suggested that I was financing certain MCAs to impeach Speaker Kinengo.
But what surprised me most was when a certain section of Governor Malombe’s loyalists started saying that I am former Governor Ngilu’s project hell bent on down- playing Governor Malombe’s work.
The fact is that Malombe during his first term only erected structures that have little or no bearing on the economy of Kitui county.This is why the Gross County Product (GCP) ofKitui grew slightly from ksh76 billion(2013) to about ksh87 billion(2017), a difference of just 11billion.
During Ngilu’s time as Governor, the GCP for Kitui County grew from kshs 87 Billion (2018) to kshs 109 Billion (2021), a difference of kshs 22 billion, (double that of Governor Malombe), despite the Covid 19 menace and the huge obstructions by Ngilu’s opponents especially in the County Assembly.
Today as I talk about the enemies of Kitui, I’ll start with Kitui people themselves.We have been called the people of the 3 Ks, kiima, kimena na kiwiu.Or in other words Hatred, Jealousy and selfishness But I want to say that these are not the original titles of the Akamba.
Everyone else outside Kitui knows that we are loving, honest and hard working Our real enemies are actually our leaders and in particular certain specific leaders who have held our community captive to poverty and slavery With 2 major rivers running across our county, 60 years after independence and Kitui is still a dry county that cannot sustain itself With huge deposits of minerals scattered across our County.
Kitui is still one of the poorest counties in Kenya and what excuse do our leaders give We need to agree on compensation We need to lay down structures We need to engage more What they are not telling us is this that they want to know what is on the table for them.
That certain people haven’t given them some sealed envelopes and what I am saying is:- Shame on you leaders when you deny Kitui people a chance for development Shame on you leaders when you divide Kitui people for your own selfish ends rather than for the interest of the community.
Shame on you leaders when you keep quiet when Kitui is dying because you are afraid to speak because of party and government loyalties. I call on all Kitui people, let us face these leaders and shame them for their selfishness Let us know these leaders by name and let’s not elect them to any post in the future If a Governor or Speaker doesn’t perform, let’s impeach them, if an MCA or MP doesn’t perform, let’s recall them.
Let us not be held prisoners by our own leaders They are the enemies of Kitui, and we know them by name.And we will name them individually,”.
