Kanyangi MCA Hon Bonface Mukwate Katula has tabled the Impeachment Motion Against Kitui’s Deputy Speaker Hon Christopher Nzilu during today’s Morning plenary Sitting. The motion will be discussed on Wednesday 3rd 2023.
On the other hand Hon Nzilu hires a city lawyer to represent him, this is seen as a strategic move to mount a vigorous defense against the impeachment proceedings.
The lawyer is expected to cross-examine the mover of the motion and challenge the allegations brought against the Deputy Speaker.
MM Kimuli & Co advocates said his client ( Deputy Speaker) finds that the notice given for the hearing of the motion is not sufficient. Requesting that the hearing be moved to Thursday 5th October 2023, at 2:30pm to enable him and his counsel appear.
“Of particular significance is that his counsel will not be available to attend the Wednesday session on Wednesday”, part of the letter read.
The motion to impeach Deputy Speaker Nzilu has gained momentum in recent weeks, with some nominated MCAs initially appending their signatures in support of the motion.
However, what was expected to be a straightforward process took an unexpected twist when the nominated MCAs got letter from Wiper Party Secretary General Sen Shakila Abdalla wrote a letter to all Wiper nominated MCA stating that as party leadership they are satisfied with Hon Christopher Nzilu we the deputy speaker and finds no valid reason to necessitate his impeachment.
“All nominated members who appended signatures in support of this motion should rescind them and therefore debate and vote against this impeachment motion once it comes before the floor of the house”, the letter read.
