Grief has gripped residents of Majengo village Kitui Township ward after a boy drowned in Kalundu Dam on thursday around 4pm and his body retrieved at 6pm where he had gone on a fishing escapade with his friends.

According to witness the boy was fishing with his friends and after he drowned the friends disappeared at around 4 pm and a search by area residents they managed to find his clothes and sandals beside the dam attracting hundreds of residents.
According to Kitui County Emergency Officer Bernard Mwela, they retrieved the body and they have taken it to Kitui County Referral Hospital morgue by police but unidentified and still following to identify the boy’s parents and relatives.
He also urged everybody coming for fishing or swimming at Eco Park to be much careful. “Before you start swimming or fishing ensure there’s life saver and divers within to avoid such a tragedy in future “, He added .
He asked parents to warn their children from going to the dam to fish as they risk their lives.

Majengo Resident speaking exclusively with Hopkin Reporter said residents have, in the past, raised complaints to have the dam fenced but nothing was done by the local leaders and the county.
