Vendors at Kabati Market have something to smile about after the Vincent Munyoki Foundation supported their hustle by providing umbrellas to shield them from the scorching sun.
The small vendors, particularly women known as Mama Mbogas, expressed their jubilation and gratitude towards the foundation for recognizing their efforts to earn a living amid challenging economic times. The umbrellas will also help them cope with the ongoing rains and harsh weather conditions.
In recent days, roadside hawking of roasted maize, eggs, sausages, and other foodstuffs, mainly vegetables, has become common in Kabati Town. This surge in street vending is driven by high unemployment rates. The foundation highlighted the importance of embracing roadside vendors who cannot afford to pay for kiosks or stalls due to the nature of their businesses.
