Waziri Phoebe Mutemi has raised concern over the alarming rise in Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and femicide cases in Kitui County, stressing that the crisis demands a coordinated, well-resourced, and sustained response.
Speaking during a public participation forum held today at the Kitui Multi-Purpose Hall, Waziri Mutemi emphasized the importance of a holistic and collaborative approach involving government institutions, civil society organizations, religious leaders, and development partners. She urged all stakeholders to come together and play their part in eliminating GBV and protecting vulnerable populations, particularly women and girls.
During the event, Ms. Mutemi officially handed over the recommendation report compiled by the Kitui County GBV Technical Working Group. The report will contribute to the ongoing nationwide consultations on GBV and femicide.
The delegation receiving the report was led by Dr. Sam Thenya, who serves as the Vice Chairperson of the Presidential Committee on GBV and Femicide. The committee was appointed by President William Ruto in January 2025 to gather views and deliver a comprehensive report on the state of GBV and femicide across the country.
