Kitui CECM for Culture, Gender, Youth, ICT, Sports and Social Services Phoebe Mutemi has joined Sports CS Ababu Namwamba for the inaugural edition of the Talanta Hela Under-19 football tournament finals at the Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi County yesterday on Sunday 3rd December 2023.
The tournament seeks to offer a platform to upcoming talent nationwide to showcase their abilities as well as nurture and monetize them.
All the participating teams have conducted march-past led by Kenya Prisons Band.
Kitui County is well represented after emerging the best in Lower Eastern qualifier competitions held at Makueni in August this year.
Kitui’s team of 22 female players is in the Girls’ Pool D group alongside those of Machakos, Uasin Gishu and Nakuru, and comprises:
1. Mbitini Girls – 10 players
2. Syomunyu Girls – 7 players
3. Mulango Girls – 3 players
4. Muthale Girls – 1 player
5. Simisi Secondary -1 player.
The competition climax is slated for December 12th at Nyayo National Stadium where President William Ruto will award the winner Sh.5 Million
Waziri Phoebe was accompanied by Kitui County Assembly Committee on Culture, Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Service led by the Chairperson Hon. Judith Wanza (Nuu).
Hon. Judith applauded the initiative saying that it offers a platform to upcoming talent to showcase their abilities and nurture their talents.
In his speech, CS Namwamba opined that he is proud of the growth of the tournament and that he is optimistic it will be a channel for the growth of national team Harambee Stars in future. ‘’We began this journey on August 15th and I am delighted that we are here to witness the national finals. We are looking forward to a good tournament, a brilliant display of skills and talents as well as entertaining football’’, Namwamba added.
