After a vigorous debate which lasted for more than two hours, the House passed the report which gave nod to five nominees and rejected two others out of the list of seven names which were forwarded to the Assembly by H.E. the Governor Dr. Julius Malombe.
Those approved by the Assembly include: Mr. Alex Nzoka Mwanzia, Mr. Roland Mutua Kamotho, Ms. Lydia Mwikali Kitonga, Mr. Mbuvi Musyimi and Dr. John Kyalo Muthuka. On the other hand, the House rejected the nomination of Ms. Everlyne Mutheu Kitheka and Ms. Eunice Mwikali Mutua.
The Committee observed that the two members were not qualified to be municipal board members in regard to Section 14 of the Urban Areas and Cities Act.
Members who debated to the motion applauded the Appointments Committee chaired by the Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya for the thorough vetting and said the report gave the governor a head start in operationalizing the Mwingi Municipality which they termed as long overdue. Hon. Members underscored that the new municipality would be able to benefit from funds by development partners among them the World Bank.
Speaker Hon. Katisya who presided over the afternoon sitting thanked Hon. Members for passing the report and urged the House to consider fast-tracking establishment of other municipalities in the vast county in the near future so that people can benefit from more development programmes that come along with such establishments.
