The decorated Dubai based Kenyan and businessman Hon Augustus Kyalo Muli has said oppostion is a very important element in any thriving democracy.
He said the most important functions of the opposition party is to act as a watchdog, monitoring the government’s actions and highlighting any issues or problems that may arise and helps to ensure that the government is always working in the best interests of the people and that any issues or problems are addressed.
“Any democratically elected leader must by law recognise and support opposition structures.This means all right thinking Kenyans must vehemently oppose the politics of opposition and government handshake and nusu mkate”, he said
He added the he supports handshake if it means the president recognising the role of the opposition to fast track the government in delivering services to her people and how the country’s resources are shared.
“A handshake for sake of obtaining positions for opposition leaders is what has been described as political conmanship and selfishness and must be rebuked very strongly. Elections are there to give us a government and an opposition. A winner and a loser. So when you lose and all lawful means confirm that you have lost, then take up your opposition role with dignity and prepare for the next elections”.
In his statement shared to Hopkin Digital, Hon Muli states “Kenya needs opposition. We recognise and applaud Raila and Kalonzo and the rest of the Azimio team for the role they have played in the opposition politics. But if they are tired, let them not shortchange Kenyans now. If they are tired let them hand over the baton of opposition to others.President Ruto could be the sharpest President this Country has ever had. He is a younger and more aggressive version of Kibaki.If Ruto could win against a ruling President and a government system, what do you think will happen in 2027?Instead of Azimio wasting time running up and down asking for bipartisan talks they should be burning midnight oil planning on how to provide the best opposition for Ruto.There is no other way Azimio can defeat Ruto.He has won at an away game, there is no way you’ll defeat him at his home if you play the same game that you played in 2022.What we are witnessing in Azimio now are signs of betrayal.What happened to the call for lowering of cost of living?What happened to holding the country to account for the deaths of citizens during peaceful protests?Who cares about those still recuperating in hospitals?Let opposition remain in opposition.”
