Joy and celebration filled Kyukuni village on Wednesday after former Cabinet Secretary for EAC, ASALS and Regional Development, Hon. Peninah Malonza, donated a wheelchair to young Y.G. Kimuli, a child living with a disability.

The gesture brought renewed hope to Kimuli, who has been unable to attend school or play with other children due to mobility challenges. The family reached out to Hon. Malonza after hearing of her previous intervention for another disabled child in the same area, who was paralyzed after falling from a mango tree.

Hon. Malonza, widely recognized for her sustained philanthropic activities, has been supporting differently-abled individuals across Kitui County through donations of wheelchairs and walking aids. This year alone, she has provided more than five walking aids to needy beneficiaries in Mwingi North, Kitui Rural, Kitui Central and other parts of the county.

Since last year, she has donated 10 wheelchairs across various constituencies  Kitui South (5), Kitui East (3), Mwingi Central (1) and Makueni (1) restoring mobility to eight children and two adults. Many of the beneficiaries are now able to attend school, engage with peers and participate actively in daily activities.

Although out of office, Hon. Malonza has remained rooted in community service, running a range of charitable programmes including the distribution of water tanks, chicks and mobility support devices.

Her commitment to uplifting vulnerable groups dates back to 2009, when she established 21 Compassion Centres across Kitui and Mwingi, supporting more than 6,300 beneficiaries through education, health services, livelihood skills and social welfare a legacy that continues to transform lives.

Speaking to Hopkin Digital, Hon. Malonza affirmed her long-held belief that “service to humanity is service to God,” adding that true legacy is defined not by wealth or monuments, but by the lives one touches.
