Kitui County Executive for lands, Housing and Urban Development Waziri Fredrick Kimanga on Tuesday 9th December 2025, presided over the site handover of Phase Two of the Upper Katyethoka street lighting project, marking another step in the county’s ongoing efforts to modernise urban centres. The second phase will see the installation of 30 street lights budgeted at KSh 3.3 million. This follows the successful completion of Phase One, which installed 24 lights significantly improving visibility and evening trade in the area.

During the handover, Waziri Kimanga said the expansion of the lighting network will further enhance security and support a more vibrant night-time economy. He noted that improved lighting plays a critical role in reducing crime and encouraging businesses to operate safely after dark.

Kimanga emphasised that the initiative is fully aligned with Governor Julius Malombe’s manifesto, “The Kitui Promise,” which prioritises lighting up municipalities and transforming major towns into engines of a 24-hour economy. He reaffirmed the county’s commitment to sustained infrastructure investment to boost economic development.

The Kitui Municipality Manager urged residents to take good care of the upcoming street lights, highlighting that the project incorporates green energy solutions to ensure long-term sustainability and lower maintenance costs. He encouraged the public to embrace the improvements and support county efforts to enhance safety and growth within the municipality.
