Kitui County CECM for Youth and Sports, Waziri Phoebe Mutemi, on Sunday, December 21, 2025, attended the Ikanga Ward semi-finals of the ongoing Governor Malombe’s Cup, where she hailed the tournament as a powerful tool for uniting and empowering the youth across the county. Speaking during the event, Mutemi praised Governor Julius Malombe for championing a sports-driven approach to youth engagement, saying the competition has created a safe and positive platform for young people to interact, showcase talent, and build cohesion.
The semi-finals featured thrilling encounters between Kyatune FC and Ndatani FC, before Kyatune FC faced Nduu Ndune FC in the final. Nduu Ndune FC emerged winners in the men’s category, while Kyatune Blazers clinched top position in the ladies’ category. Both teams qualified for the sub-county stage of the tournament. The matches attracted a large turnout, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for the Governor Malombe’s Cup at the grassroots level.
Addressing players and supporters, Mutemi said the main goal of the tournament goes beyond competition. “This cup is about bringing our youth together, nurturing talent, promoting peace, and steering our young people away from drugs and substance abuse,” she said. She added that the high level of discipline and sportsmanship witnessed in Ikanga Ward was proof that sports can be a strong vehicle for social transformation.
Wishing the qualifying teams well as they advance to the next stage, Mutemi urged them to remain focused and disciplined. “I wish Nduu Ndune FC and Kyatune Blazers all the best in the sub-county matches. Go and represent Ikanga Ward with pride and professionalism,” she said, reaffirming the county government’s commitment to investing in youth and sports as a cornerstone of development under Governor Malombe’s leadership.
