Fiery county activist and theologian Musili Kauta has launched a scathing attack on the Kitui County Assembly, accusing the elected MCAs of completely abandoning their constitutional mandate in favor of selfish personal gains.
In a statement that has stirred intense political debate, Kauta claimed that the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) have neglected their oversight, representation, and legislative roles, choosing instead to serve the interests of two competing camps: the Speaker’s faction and the Executive’s inner circle.
“Kitui MCAs abandoned their oversight, representation, and legislative duties a long time ago,” Kauta said.
“One group is with Speaker Katisya and receives generous allowances and trips to the best world destinations.
The other group is with the executive and receives CLIDP projects and other large tenders.”
The activist lamented that ordinary Kitui residents have been left to suffer, with no voice in government. He cited rampant sand harvesting and limestone transportation operations in the county, which continue unchecked and unregulated, as prime examples of the Assembly’s failure to defend the public interest.
“Sand is moving all day and night, and no leader is asking questions. Nobody is asking questions about the transportation of limestone,” Kauta lamented.
In his brutally honest style, Kauta did not spare the electorate either. He accused Kitui voters of enabling poor leadership by accepting token handouts and failing to hold leaders accountable between elections.
“Kitui people do not value good leadership. They simply wait for elections and vote for whoever gives them 100 Bobs.”
The activist remarks are expected to ignite heated responses within political circles, especially from the Kitui County Assembly leadership. However, to many, his words reflect the growing frustration among citizens who feel betrayed by those elected to protect their interests.
