Chief Officer for Youth and Sports, Mr. Nason Kang’alya, on Saturday toured Mutito Primary School playground in Mutito/Kaliku Ward, Kitui East Sub-County, during the ongoing Governor’s Cup ward-level matches. He was accompanied by Chief Officer for Energy, Mr. Henry Mutuku, as county officials continued to monitor the progress of the tournament and assess sports facilities at the grassroots.

Speaking during the visit, Kang’alya said the Governor’s Cup was designed to bring together young people from all backgrounds, using sports as a unifying platform while identifying and nurturing talent at the ward level. He noted that the ward semi-finals had attracted impressive participation and enthusiasm, reflecting the growing interest in organized sports among the youth.

The Youth and Sports Chief Officer also congratulated Musukini Ladies FC for emerging winners and qualifying for the sub-county matches, describing their achievement as a major boost for girls’ participation in football. He said the county government remains committed to ensuring both boys and girls benefit equally from the tournament and related sports empowerment programs.

Kang’alya lauded the high turnout of youth at the event, emphasizing that beyond competition, the Governor’s Cup aims to combat drug and substance abuse, promote peace, and strengthen social cohesion within communities. He reaffirmed that the county leadership, under Governor Julius Malombe and the stewardship of CECM Phoebe Mutemi, will continue investing in sports as a tool for youth empowerment, unity, and positive social change.
