Former Kitui Governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu on Saturday, December 20, 2025 joined hundreds of mourners and the family of the late Josephine Nduku Kilonzo at Kyoani Village to mourn and celebrate her life. Ngilu stood with the bereaved family during the burial ceremony, offering words of comfort and solidarity at a time of profound grief.

The late Josephine Nduku Kilonzo had accumulated a hospital bill of KSh 4.8 million, a burden that forced her body to remain in the mortuary for five months as the family struggled to raise the required amount. The prolonged delay caused immense emotional and financial strain, leaving the family unable to accord their loved one a dignified burial.

Ngilu intervened by engaging hospital management and negotiating on behalf of the family, a move that enabled the release of the body and allowed burial arrangements to proceed. Her intervention was widely praised by residents, who lauded her compassion and willingness to step in during moments of crisis when the family had exhausted all other options.

Speaking on behalf of the family, relatives expressed deep gratitude to Ngilu for her generosity and humanity. They said her support lifted a heavy financial burden at a time they were emotionally broken, allowing them to grieve with dignity and peace. Residents described her actions as a true reflection of servant leadership, noting that her intervention restored dignity to the family and brought closure after months of pain and uncertainty.
