Senator Kavindu’s Witch Hunt Won’t Erase Governor Wavinya’s Health Sector Wins

Our investigation has established that it is increasingly clear Senator Agnes Kavindu Muthama has abandoned her legislative mandate, instead moonlighting as a full-time political propagandist. Her latest antics cheap photo-ops in hospitals during strikes and baseless attacks on Governor Wavinya Ndetiare nothing more than a desperate witch hunt, aimed at scoring cheap political points rather than delivering meaningful results for the people of Machakos.

What Senator Kavindu conveniently fails to highlight while peddling her propaganda is the undeniable truth: under Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s administration, Machakos County has made unprecedented progress in strengthening its health workforce. Through close collaboration with the Kenya National Union of Nurses and Midwives (local branch), Governor Wavinya has achieved concrete, measurable results that directly benefit Machakos residents.

The numbers speak for themselves. In 2023, out of 422 health worker promotions approved, 132 were nurses. In 2024, 57 nurses were recruited to boost staffing in our health facilities. In 2025 alone, 183 more nurses were employed and deployed across the county. Between February and May 2025, 231 nurses across all cadres were promoted — a clear indication that this administration values and rewards health workers.

And the work is far from over. Recruitment of an additional 42 nurses is currently underway to further strengthen service delivery. In a bold and unprecedented move, Governor Wavinya has also offered to immediately promote all nurses with over seven years of service, with the rest scheduled for promotion in the FY 2026/2027 budget cycle. These are not empty political slogans; they are tangible commitments backed by action.

Yet instead of using her position in the Senate to lobby for more funds for Machakos hospitals, improve national health policy, or push for better medical infrastructure, Senator Kavindu is fixated on cheap political theatrics. She has reduced herself to a sideshow more concerned with camera time than crafting laws that could transform healthcare nationwide.

The people of Machakos did not elect a senator to play politics with their health. They expected a fighter in the Senate, someone who would bring resources home and stand up for their welfare. What they have instead is a leader who has mastered the art of noise-making while sleeping on the job.

If Senator Kavindu truly cared about the people, she would be highlighting these successes, building on them, and working hand in hand with Governor Wavinya to make Machakos a healthcare model county. But it seems that for her, political sabotage trumps service delivery. Machakos people deserve better than a senator who thrives on propaganda while ignoring the real progress right under her nose.
