Wavinya Ndeti Delivers Clean Water to Over 1,000 Yatta Residents

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has delivered a major boost to water access in Yatta Sub-County following the completion of the Kaliani community borehole in Matuu Ward.

The project is expected to benefit more than 1,000 residents from Kaliani, Kathangathini, Kivandini, and Kamuu villages by providing a reliable supply of clean water for domestic use, small-scale irrigation, and livestock.

For years, communities in the area have endured long and difficult treks in search of water, often relying on seasonal streams and distant sources. The newly completed borehole is now set to ease that burden and improve daily living conditions for households in the four villages.

Governor Wavinya said her administration remains committed to expanding access to clean and safe water across all parts of Machakos. She emphasized that water is a fundamental right and that no resident should be forced to walk long distances to meet basic needs.

The project adds to a series of water initiatives being rolled out by the county government as part of ongoing efforts to address shortages and strengthen community resilience, particularly in arid and semi-arid areas.

Residents have welcomed the development, saying the borehole will support farming activities, improve hygiene, and reduce the time spent fetching water especially for women and children.

The county government has indicated that more water projects are planned in the coming months as part of its broader strategy to ensure reliable water access for all Machakos residents.
