Former Cabinet Secretary for EAC, ASALS and Regional Development, Hon. Peninah Malonza, has expressed deep sorrow following the sudden demise of Sonia Nzilani Musyoka, one of Makueni County’s senior executives and a respected environmental scholar.

In her message of condolence, Hon. Malonza described Sonia as “one of the brightest, most vibrant academicians and a well-profiled CECM in Makueni County.”

She recalled first meeting Sonia during a consultative session with Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior while she served as the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism. The meeting focused on tourism circuits and human wildlife conflict in Makueni, and it is at that moment, she noted, that Sonia’s expertise and dedication became evident.

According to Malonza, Sonia distinguished herself as a hardworking environmentalist, a forthright leader, and a promising young professional whose contributions left a lasting impression. “From that moment, it was clear that Sonia was a remarkable asset to Makueni County and to the Kamba nation,” she said.

The former CS praised Sonia for her “insightful contributions, passion for service, and unwavering support” to Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior in fulfilling the county’s executive mandate. She noted that Sonia’s passing is not only a loss to her family, but also to the wider community that benefitted from her leadership.

Hon. Malonza conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Makueni County Government, and friends of the late CECM in Kenya and beyond. She prayed for comfort and strength during what she described as a difficult moment of grief.
