Ikanga Kyatune Super MCA, Hon. Cyrus Musyoka Sonko, has raised the alarm, urging all Kitui leaders to unite and stand with the people of Mutha. “This is so devastating,” he said, expressing deep concern over the injustices and inhumane acts being witnessed across the Tana-River border. He reminded leaders that the vows taken in 2022 were to serve and protect citizens, and insisted that peace and security must be restored through decisive action.
Hon. Sonko stressed that the government has a solemn constitutional duty to protect lives and property, noting that the plight of Mutha residents has been ignored for too long. He compared Kenya’s constitutional guarantees to those of the most progressive democracies, where protection of life and property is considered an inalienable right. Calling the situation intolerable, he declared that those in power “MUST ACT NOW” to end the decades-long suffering of Mutha residents and restore peaceful coexistence along the Tana-River border.
This comes in the wake of fresh attacks, where camel herders torched homes in Mutha, rendering vulnerable residents homeless. Families are now displaced, left without food, shelter, or security, as their cries for justice continue to go unanswered.
Shockingly, Kitui South MP has remained silent throughout the crisis. Her refusal to address the attacks has come as a betrayal to many, especially after she publicly admitted that the camel owners behind the atrocities are her wealthy friends. For residents of Mutha, this silence is not just neglect it is complicity and has fueled demands for urgent intervention by both county and national leaders.
