On Tuesday, 19th August 2025, Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Jonathan Mueke, accompanied by Kitui County CECM for Youth and Sports, Phoebe Mutemi, inspected key national government projects in Kitui County that are set to be launched by President William Ruto.
The tour began at the Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui, the designated venue for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations. The 10,000-seater facility, now at its final stages of completion, has already created over 2,000 jobs for local youth, injecting income and skills development into the community. Once completed, the stadium will stand as a modern sports hub, nurturing talent while generating sustainable revenue for the county.
Speaking during the inspection, CECM Mutemi hailed the stadium as a game-changer for Kitui youth. She noted that sports infrastructure is a vital pillar of empowerment and talent growth, emphasizing that Ithookwe Stadium will not only host national and international sporting events but also provide a platform for cultural activities and economic opportunities.

PS Mueke later toured the Affordable Housing project under the Boma Yangu initiative at KEFRI in Kitui Town. The project, a flagship of the government’s housing agenda, is expected to provide decent and affordable homes while creating thousands of jobs for skilled and unskilled workers. Upon completion, the housing units will ease the housing burden in Kitui and uplift the living standards of many families.
The PS also inspected the Umaa Dam project, designed to boost water supply for both domestic and agricultural use. Once complete, the dam will provide clean water to over 75,000 households and support irrigation and livestock farming. Mueke affirmed that with proper management, the project has the potential to transform Kitui into a food-secure county. He reiterated the government’s commitment to fast-tracking such projects to ensure they directly benefit the people of Kitui and the wider Ukambani region.
