Kitui South MP Rachael Kaki Nyamai has confirmed that she is currently battling a case in court filed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over allegations of conflict of interest in road projects under the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA). The revelation has sent shockwaves across Kitui South, where residents have long accused the legislator of turning public resources into a personal cash cow.
In a heated exchange on a popular Kitui WhatsApp group, Nyamai broke her silence, declaring: “This matter is in Court be informed, I will not comment it here, I want to deal with it the right way.” With those words, the MP finally admitted that the allegations of graft which even led to the arrest of Emmanuel Maleve, Hopkin Digital Media’s investigative reporter are now a reality under judicial scrutiny.
Investigations by EACC focus on how Nyamai allegedly influenced tender awards in favour of her relatives and cronies. Companies such as Tira Southshore Holdings Ltd, Muyo K Enterprises Ltd, Fedma Store, and Kyatune General Stores Ltd all tied to her close family and allies are said to have pocketed millions in contracts, while residents are left with impassable roads and substandard projects.
