The Kangu Kangu Water Project is set to be commissioned this month, marking a major milestone in improving water access in Kitui County. This follows an inspection visit by Water and Irrigation CECM Peter Nkunda, Agriculture CO Gladys Kivoto, and Kitwasco Managing Director Mrs. June M. Kavyati on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

The project is the result of a strategic partnership between the County Government of Kitui and World Vision, aimed at boosting water supply, sanitation, hygiene, and nutrition to enhance livelihoods across the region. With water scarcity being a long-standing challenge, the initiative is expected to bring much-needed relief to thousands of households.

“For years, our people have walked long distances in search of water. With Kangu Kangu now complete, families will finally have reliable access to clean and safe water at their doorstep,” said Water CECM Nkunda during the inspection tour.

Once completed, the Kangu Kangu Water Project will deliver an estimated 1.4 million liters of water daily, significantly increasing availability for domestic and agricultural use. The improved water supply will also support local farming and livestock keeping, while enhancing hygiene and sanitation standards.

“This is not just about water it’s about transforming livelihoods. Reliable water means healthier families, thriving farms, and stronger local economies,” noted Agriculture CECM Gladys Kivoto.

“At Kitwasco, we are committed to ensuring efficient distribution and sustainable management of this new resource. The success of Kangu Kangu will set a benchmark for how we deliver water services across Kitui,” added Kitwasco Managing Director June.
