Public Health and Sanitation Chief Officer, Lynn Kitwan, on Thursday graced the handover of new mortuary coolers at the Kitui County Referral Hospital (KCRH) Funeral Home. The development marks a major step in the county’s vision of transforming the facility into a state-of-the-art funeral home befitting a teaching and referral hospital.

The upgraded morgue has been expanded to accommodate 64 bodies, a significant improvement from the old facility which had a maximum capacity of only 24 bodies. In addition, the new system comes with modern monoblock refrigeration technology that ensures improved preservation, cleanliness, and proper drainage compared to the old setup. “Our aim is to make this funeral home a model of excellence in line with KCRH’s growth into a Level 5 teaching and referral facility,” said CO Kitwan.

The spacious new morgue is expected to ease congestion while enhancing dignity in handling the deceased. According to the Chief Officer, the modern facility is designed to ensure that families accessing funeral services are accorded humane and professional care during their time of grief.

“This project demonstrates our commitment to better healthcare systems and quality infrastructure for the people of Kitui,” added Kitwan.
