Former Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza has urged residents to begin preparing their farms in anticipation of the upcoming rains. She advised locals to follow guidance from the Meteorological Department in Kitui, which continues to issue seasonal forecasts to help farmers plan appropriately for planting and crop management.

Speaking in Kamutei, Kitui South, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, during a community event where she distributed water tanks to households, Malonza emphasized the importance of early preparation and sustainable farming practices to enhance food security across Kitui County. She encouraged farmers to take advantage of the predicted rains by planting suitable crops that align with the local climatic conditions.

Malonza also urged the beneficiaries of the tanks to harvest and store rainwater for domestic and agricultural use, noting that efficient water storage would help families make the most of the donation. She reminded residents that rainwater harvesting remains a crucial step toward resilience against drought and water scarcity.

In her address, the former CS further encouraged residents to form organized groups to enable them to access support from the government and development partners. She reaffirmed her commitment to empowering communities through initiatives that promote self-reliance, agricultural productivity, and improved livelihoods across Kitui.
