Governor Wavinya Fires Back at Senator Kavindu Over Health Sector Crisis

518

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has hit back at Senator Agnes Kavindu Muthama, challenging her to stop playing populist politics with the suffering of patients and instead push for real legislative solutions in the Senate. The Governor reminded the Senator that the health crisis in counties is rooted in funding gaps that can only be solved at the national level, not by issuing empty statements in front of cameras.

Governor Wavinya urged her “sister” Senator to focus her energy on ensuring that health funds are fully aligned with devolved functions, a move she said would permanently resolve the recurring challenges in Machakos hospitals. She further invited Kavindu to champion legislation that ensures automatic reimbursement of hospital SHIF (Social Health Insurance Fund) allocations, stressing that this is the only way to end the cycle of nurses’ strikes and stalled services.

In a rallying call to health workers, the Governor appealed to nurses and midwives to put the interests of Machakos residents first and allow more room for dialogue. She insisted her administration remains committed to finding a solution, but warned that political showboating from leaders who should be working to fix the problem in Nairobi rather than shouting in Machakos only worsens the crisis.
